A Journey of Insights: Mika Imai Explores Deaf Community, Social Rights, and Gender Diversity

We were honored to have Japanese director Mika Imai as a guest speaker at the Deaf Film Festival Seminar held on December 3rd. The seminar focused on the topics of “Deaf People and Social Rights, and Gender Diversity” Mika Imai delved into various issues during the seminar, ranging from the significance of sign language in Deaf culture to providing more support and respect for Deaf individuals who identify as transgender, non-binary, or gender non-conforming, as well as addressing gender diversity within the Deaf community.

One of the most impactful moments was when Mika Imai shared insights on the topic of Deaf transgender individuals. This is a rarely discussed issue that many people avoid, but we truly appreciate Mika Imai for shedding light on this topic. The seminar prompted deep reflection and raised questions about whether society adequately acknowledges and discusses gender diversity within the Deaf community.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mika Imai for their passionate participation and sharing. We look forward to future encounters where we can continue exploring these important and sensitive topics!
