Exploring the Silent World: Deaf Culture and Identity

Exploring the Silent World: Deaf Culture and Identity

In the previous discussion about Director Yang’s sharing session, after the program 5 “Deaf Education – Thriving in silence” at the film festival, we had the pleasure of inviting director Judy from the film “Sunshine Of My Life” to participate in a post-screening discussion.

The discussion covered various topics, including:

How does the film portray the unique experiences and challenges of the Deaf community?

Do these portrayals contribute to a better understanding and acceptance of Deaf identity in society?

How do Deaf directors and actors highlight their unique perspectives and creativity in film-making?

How does their involvement enrich the presentation of Deaf culture?

………

Additionally, we were delighted that director Judy also shared her perspective on visual impairment. In the third program of the festival, there were films featuring collaborations between Deaf and visually impaired individuals, and we eagerly anticipate the possibility of such films being showcased in Hong Kong.

Once again, we extend our gratitude to Judy for joining us.
